BOPE performs operations in four communities located in the Maré Complex
RIO—Special Police Operations Battalion (BOPE) agents began an operation on Friday morning in the Parque União, Nova Holanda, Timbau, and Baixa do Sapateiro communities, located in the Complexo da Maré. According to BOPE, the object of the operation is to canvass the area in search of suspects.
The operation consisted of 120 police officers, a tank, a backhoe loader, and a mechanical shovel. The Shock Battalion [riot police] is also operating nearby and at the access points to the four communities.
Officers from the 41st Military Police Battalion (BPM) in Irajá have invaded Morro do Juramento, in Vicente de Carvalho, located in the North Zone. They were supported by two armored vehicles. To date, there is no information available about shootings, arrests, or seizures.
Officers from the 15th BPM (Duque de Caxias) also performed an operation on Friday morning, in Complexo da Mangeurinha, located in Duque de Caxias in the Baixada Fluminense. The officers were supported by armored vehicles and other military police battalions. To date, there have been no reports of shootings, arrests, or seizures.
